"The Valkyries are female spirits who assist Odin and, at times, Freyja. Those who the powers have chosen to die in battle are collected at the moment of death by the Valkyries. The word means ‘choosers of the slain’.

In Valhalla, the Valkyries take care of the Einherjar, serving them food and drink and then appear as stunningly beautiful maidens. But when they gather over the battlefield like a flock of ravens, the Valkyries reveal their true nature, taking the form of terrifying wild creatures.
