Surt is the ruler of the demonic fire giants and has total supremacy over the land of fire, Muspelheim. His name means “the black one”. Surt stands guard at the border to his realm and slays any potential invaders. He is as ancient as Muspelheim itself, and rose out of the fiery flames at the beginning of time, long before the rest of the cosmos had been created.
