It is a sad affliction that most cryptozoology books are not well-illustrated, because they are written by fringe researchers who are unable to commission artists. But this book is very different, written and illustrated by a fine illustrator under the advice of a well-known researcher and zoologist. The subject matter is broad and eclectic, and the illustrations as usual are sublime. Johan's style is in many ways romantically tied to Kidby, Diterlizzi and Frazetta but with a style all its own. Bravo and excelsior!

As always, Egerkrans has given us a beautifully illustrated and beautifully bound book that looks great on the shelf. The writing is well researched and playful, neither cynical nor overly credulous.
