At night, a dark raven-like figure can sometimes come swooping over the ground, followed by a bloodcurdling scream or an odd creaking noise like the grating of an unoiled cart wheel. The nattramn is said to be the restless soul either of a criminal or an unbaptised child, doomed to spend its afterlife in the form of a bird.
