A draug is a powerful and bloodthirsty revenant from ancient Scandinavian mythology. Unlike many deathly beings, which lack an actual physical form, the draug is a decidedly substantial ghoul whose dead body is animated by their own spirit. The draug dwells in the grave mound where it was once buried and appears as a blackened, swollen corpse with sinister glowing eyes.
The illustration is from the book The Undead.
