Freyr is the most important Vanir god and alongside Thor the most popular among the folk of Midgard. This is hardly surprising, since in his capacity as the god of plenty he has the greatest sway over people’s everyday life. He is often referred to as the god of the world, and the name Freyr means ruler or lord. He controls the rain, the sun, the golden grain and fertility. He even has power over wealth and peace.
