On Odin’s shoulders sit the ravens Huginn and Muninn, his messengers and spies. Every day they fly through the whole of creation, gathering information and news. Then they return to the Allfather sitting in his high seat of honour, and whisper in his ears what they have seen and heard.
Huginn means thought and Muninn memory. Some say they are part of the god himself – his wisdom and his mind in bird disguise. Odin constantly worries about the ravens when they are out on his business, and dreads the day they might not return.
