East of Midgard, in the realm of the giants, grows a dark, ancient forest called Jarnvidr, or Iron Wood. It is a dangerous place, and nameless terrors are hidden in its depths. Werewolves and other monsters roam between the thick, black tree trunks, and here skulk the evil hags known as jarnvidjir.
Deep inside the oldest and most inaccessible part of the forest, where the sun’s rays never reach the ground, the witch giantess Angrboda rules supreme. She is both beautiful and dreadful to behold. Her name means ‘she who brings grief’, because her offspring are destined to cause great sorrow.
