The Midgard Serpent, or Jormungand, is the monstrous wyrm that encircles Midgard. Usually he lies slumbering on the ocean bed, but he can sometimes wake and cause storms and gigantic flood waves with the smallest flick of his tail.

Jormungand is the second of Loki and Angrboda’s children, and brother to Hel and the wolf Fenrir. When the gods discovered Loki’s venomous offspring, Odin hurled the serpent far into the deepest part of ocean. There the serpent grew rapidly and became so long that he encircled the whole world. And there he has lain ever since, biting his own tail.

The illustration is from the book Norse Gods.

The art print is in A3 format (29,7 x 42 cm / 11.7 x 16.5") and is printed on fine art paper, Munken Pure 300 gsm. The print is signed by the artist. Click the image to see the layout of the print, the print does not fill up the whole sheet of paper.
